Two industries that operate in the NCEast Alliance footprint were awarded “Leadership in Manufacturing” awards at mfgCon 2015. mfgCon is North Carolina’s premier conference for manufacturing and innovation, powered by the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP). The two day event was packed full of presentations and breakout sessions where attendees were exposed to the latest in manufacturing resources, tools and ideas.

This year, mfgCon was held in Raleigh, North Carolina. During mfgCON2015, The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership announced that Ann’s House of Nuts in Robersonville, NC and Keihin Carolina System Technology (KCST) in Tarboro, NC were two of six inaugural winners of the 2015 NCMEP Leadership Award. Ann’s House of Nuts was recognized for its success in the area of sustainable manufacturing while Keihin Carolina System Technology was recognized as a leader in manufacturing excellence.
Ann’s House of Nuts’ work to reduce fat, oil and grease (FOG) content in wastewater, and has achieved annual cost savings of $120,000 through energy efficiency measures. The process improvements that they have implemented in support of sustainability have allowed Ann’s House to re-invest $3.7 million back into the company.
Keihin Carolina System Technology excelled across all five areas of leadership. KCST works closely with the community college system to develop curriculums for workforce education, specialized training and Work Keys testing; provides internships and financial support to East Carolina University and a tuition program to qualified employees; uses a Balanced Scorecard to align activities to strategic objectives; and is zero waste to landfill, ISO14001 & ISO 50001 certified. The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership launched this inaugural awards ceremony to recognize companies that have proven that they can succeed and thrive in any climate and under any condition and by doing so, these companies bring prosperity to their communities as well.
