Coastal Beverage is nearing completion on a 47,250 square foot warehouse expansion at its Farmville facility. The original building was approximately 80,000 square feet, and the new addition expands their facility by more than 50%.
Coastal Beverage is a family-owned wholesale beer distributorship serving eastern North Carolina retail customers in thirty-eight counties. Besides the Farmville location, there are distribution facilities in Wilmington, Pollocksville and Elizabeth City.
Coastal was founded by Lewis Nunnelee II and began operations in Wilmington in1960 with Miller Brewing Company as its primary supplier. Now a multi-brand distributing company, Coastal distributes products for Miller, Coors, Crown Imports, Heineken and Yuengling to over 4000 clients in eastern North Carolina.
In 2000, Coastal became the first tenant in Farmville Corporate Park when the company purchased Pitt County Shell Building #2, located at 3973 South Fields Street. The shell building received a $2 million upfit at that time to outfit the building with cooler, warehouse and office space.
The expansion, slated to be complete in early fall, adds six docks to support increased shipping and receiving volume. The addition includes an expanded picking area and taller ceiling height to maximize space utilization and incorporate full use of their logistics technology. Coastal Beverage is also adding an additional employee parking lot. Farrior and Sons, Inc. was hired as the construction company on the project.
“This expansion project provides us with enough building capacity to support the complexity and growth of our portfolio of beverage products, improve the level of service to our customers, and increase operating efficiencies within the warehouse environment,” says Tim Eldridge, VP of Operations. “We are also excited that over the long term, this business growth will create new jobs for Pitt County and the nearby communities.”
