Quality of Life
The Eastern Region isn't all business. It's also a great place to live. There's a lot for people to love here in North Carolina's Eastern Region. There are beautiful rivers, lakes and beaches. Great schools, colleges and universities. Unsurpassed fishing and boating. Not to mention tremendous cultural activities.

In fact, national publications continue to rave about the quality of life in the Region. It is continually ranked as one of the best places in the country to live. Not surprising when you look at the comfortably sized communities - where the neighborhoods are safer, the people are friendlier, the lifestyle is definitely more relaxed, the commutes are shorter, and just about everything is more affordable than in large built up cities.
There's an ideal blend of uptown and down home - thanks to the famously pristine Carolina coast forming its one border, with the world renowned Research Triangle Park (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) forming the other.
You'll always find something to do. A thriving arts community and a major state university combine to provide a wealth of cultural activity in the area. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound too - blue grass jam sessions in the town square, boating and fishing, a visit to the beach, a Division I college football game - they're all here.

A climate conducive to a wide range of outdoor activity
Our temperate four-season climate makes for an great day of golf, fishing, or simply relaxing on the beach. Needless to say, outdoor recreation is extremely popular in the region.
The Eastern Region has some of the state's most attractive venues for fishing, hunting, boating, cycling and other popular outdoor activities. Some of the most appealing seaside communities along the east coast stretch out over our 65 miles of sparkling white sands. And golf can be enjoyed at some of the most striking courses and resorts in the world.
Nearby there are even more options. The Research Triangle area - which includes Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill - is within 90 minutes. And Washington DC, Charlotte, Norfolk and Richmond are all within a four-hour drive. The Eastern Region is really at the heart of a great lifestyle.
